Sonja Dallyn is an artist, designer and artistic researcher whose work is concept-driven with an interdisciplinary approach.
Sonja Dallyn is a Helsinki-based artist, designer, and artistic researcher. Her work is both conceptual and deeply personal. It addresses versatile issues from trauma and grief to embodiment and resiliency. Dallyn’s background is in ceramics, but in recent years she has expanded her practice to include glass, biomaterials and traditional craft practices such as natural dyeing and rope twining. The focus of her work is in the process of making, with documentation, photography and writing playing important roles. Her ideas frequently stem from visceral reactions to tinkering or fiddling around with a material. In her previous projects she has enjoyed working with collaborators from a variety of backgrounds, co-learning and brainstorming within the framework of a creative brief. Poetry and illustration are Dallyn's latest mediums of introspection. She is currently finalising her studies in the Contemporary Design Master’s program in Aalto University.
